On National Nurses Day, Physician and Candidate for U.S. House Dr. Robbie Goldstein Supports Nurses by Calling on Governor Baker to Meet Their Demands in Effort to Protect Hospital Staff, Patients and Families

May 6, 2020

Today, Dr. Robbie Goldstein, candidate for U.S. House (MA-08), issued a statement calling on Governor Baker and Beacon Hill to meet the demands issued by the Massachusetts Nurses Association (MNA). The MNA has issued multiple letters to Governor Baker asking for increased support from the state to protect hospital staff, patients, and families and combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The most recent letter, issued on May 5th, calls for legislation on occupational presumption, further transparency for PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), ramping up testing for hospital staff (including antibody testing), a moratorium on bed, unit and facility closures, pressuring institutions to stop staff furloughs, shift cancellations and layoffs, and enlisting the public’s help to stop the spread of the virus.

“Our brave nurses and hospital staff put their own lives, and the lives of their families, on the line every day to care for patients. They are nothing short of heroes and should be treated as such. I stand shoulder to shoulder with the MNA and nurses across the Commonwealth, and call on Governor Baker to meet their very reasonable demands,” said Dr. Goldstein. “In the ICUs, on the medical floors, in my outpatient clinics, I witness first hand the tremendous effort from nurses every single day to combat this pandemic. We must honor them and increase their support from the state.”
